The Sea Inside acquired by Fox, Generates Early Buzz
According to the September 29 story in the Hollywood Reporter,
"Fox acquisition executive Ray Strache brought the project into the studio and negotiated the deal alongside senior vp Tony Safford with Sogepaq's Simon de Santiago. "The Sea Inside" has grossed more than €12 million ($14.8 million) since being released by Sogepaq in Spain on Sept. 3, becoming the year's highest-grossing Spanish film."
According to
Variety.com, Fox has also acquired pan-Latin America rights to the film, which is based on a true story, in addition to the rights to North American and english language speaking locales acquired in July.
This isn't the first time Ray's found a hit as part of the Fox development team. Other deals he's worked on include
recent Fox indie successes, including
Napoleon Dynamite and
Garden State.
The Sea Inside is already creating buzz and, if the early comments about the December release showing up on the Web and in print are any indication, it's destined for greatness.
According to
OscarWatch.com on October 6th:
"In terms of Oscar chances, the question is not if it will be present at Oscar night, but how BIG will it be at Oscar night."
