sheywood’s Profile - Kucinich 2008 Action CenterFor some reason, I found myself compelled this weekend to get a little political using social media and found new hope that it will enable grassroots efforts to take hold and grow into reform and positive change.
Although I signed up as a site user in July, setting up my profile on the Kucinich 2008 Action Center was one of my projects this weekend, along with research and social media use in organizing grassroots support of Amtrak travel and restoration of the Sunset Limited east of New Orleans, another unsolved Katrina issue. (Plus gave a little spur of the moment
twitterfest of live commentary on the C-Span coverage of an Iowa campaign rally from my hometown. C-Span and Twitter may not be a good mix for me--Brings out the debater in me.)
Setting up the profile, in considering the issues that concern me, it was hard to limit the list I included links to the del.icio.us pages that I use in tracking them. Amtrak support could be a real differentiating advantage for candidates who can give this American institution the fair shot it deserves to be profitable.

The promise of social media to politicians who get it is to harness the creativity and commitment of those who are passionate about issues and creative in solving them. For concerned citizens it is the means of engagement in making a real difference.
